My name is Christopher Griffin, also known as Plant Kween. I am a Brooklyn-based educator, author, and plant enthusiast with a lush collection of more than 200 green plants, affectionately known as my “green gurls.” My journey with plants began in my hometown of West Philadelphia, where I spent childhood days exploring local nurseries with my grandmother—a magical woman whose garden was always the greenest on the block. Those early experiences planted the seeds of my lifelong love for nature and cultivated the roots of my plant parenting adventure.
In 2016, I started my Instagram account, @plantkween, to share the lessons, joy, and community I’ve found through plant care. Over the years, my social media presence has blossomed into a vibrant platform focused on environmental awareness, education, and joy sharing. I’ve also written YOU GROW, GURL! Plant Kween’s Lush Guide to Growing Your Garden, a celebration of plant care as self-care.
I find immense joy in using plants to spark conversations about empowering Queer and Trans People of Color (QTPOC) in horticulture, reconnecting people to the natural world, and encouraging sustainable, greener living. My work is rooted in cultivating curiosity, joy, and collective care—one plant at a time.
What is Bloom Boldly?
Bloom Boldly is my space to share longer, thoughtful pieces on the intersection of plants, self-care, community, sustainability, and so much more. This is also a space for celebrating what it means to exist unapologetically in your truth—a theme that deeply inspires my writing and connects us all in the journey of blooming into our fullest selves. Each month, I offer one free in-depth piece that explores themes like personal growth, cultivating joy, and reconnecting with nature.
